Here's how you can tackle leadership challenges in the theatrical production industry.

Trust is the antidote to abuse of power. If you want to lead without abuse and discrimination, you have to implant and develop this antidote of trust in your collaboration with your colleagues. This includes, above all, seeing yourself as a servant leader: Be a role model and, speak and act in an exemplary manner; Don't preach water and drink wine, don't make false promises; Keep promises, or explain why you can't keep them, act sustainably and in the long term; work at eye level; absolute transparency and justification of difficult decisions in front of everyone; Give feedback, and above all, be available and don't "shut the door" in difficult situations: Show presence.

Leadership takes many forms. It's never clearcut because it breaths and adapts with the change of time and the personality of the organization. That is why you must be completely organized, prepared and respectful. Being organized gives people confidence that you have things under control. This helps them trust your choices to fix issues that come up. Being prepared will also instill confidence that you are not surprised by the challenges and are prepared to troubleshoot them. Being respectful makes everyone feel important and more inspired to battle the challenges with you. It also shows that you value what they bring to the table. Those characteristics are what helped me have the confidence of my collaborators.

Embrace improv! Keeping a "Yes, And..." mindset has made working in stressful and challenging situations more bearable. Staying adaptable and agile to the unexpected, looking at hurdles and issues as 'gifts' or offers that one must accept and build on (instead of resisting the inevitable), staying present while focusing on the bigger goal, focusing on moving forward rather than dwell on the mistakes of the past, always be ready to either support your team or take the lead, knowing when to give and when to take... these are some of the improv skills necessary and very useful in any team. This mindset keeps the company flexible and agile to change.

Always be adaptable, in any field. As leaders we often have to think on our feet, change our direction of travel and think outside of the box. The more open you are to different ideas and alternatives the quicker and easier it will be to get to where you need to be.

Communication matters. It is the central management tool of a good and servant leader and the central anchor around which one's own personal management profile should be developed. The communication approach must not be trained, but rather it must be based on the natural foundations with which you have learned to communicate for years and in which you feel comfortable. Work on small adjustments and don't let yourself be persuaded to change your entire communication style from one day to the next. The development of communication skills is only good and promotes self-confidence if you progress slowly and naturally. If you are stuck managing your employees, your production, your company or your theater, first rethink your communication.

It is important to establish a psychologically safe environment from the get go. We always begin rehearsals or classes with a check-in. Here we set boundaries (physical, emotional, etc.), set expectations, identify personal access needs and accommodations needed for each one to function at their best. This practice helps us keep communication lines open and allows everyone to feel seen and heard. When the team feels safe enough to be vulnerable with each other, this builds more courage (to explore and grow more) while building trust within the company. Better interpersonal relationships lead to a more cordial and pleasant working environment, which in turn leads to better quality output.

Clear communication is a major key to making sure the entire team are on the right page. It's very simple to slip and mistake simple language which in turn can confuse people. There's really not need to make things difficult, keep it clear

Letting your team know you are prepared to do the most mundane of tasks shows then you will do anything for the best outcome. If they see you in those positions they will be more inspired to take on those roles and push themselves to their fullest.

I find the easiest (still not easy, but on scale…) is to look at it as a biographer 15 years later. What attribute would be exhibited if this singular conflict was used to describe you?

Listening to marginalized voices begins with making sure they know they can speak in the first place. I saw an inner city grade school put on a “Cake Walk”. A literal Cake Walk and the prize was a cake. I’m going with the assumption that it all came from a place of ignorance… ignorance and resultant damages that could have been avoided by simply listening. If your show is put on like it comes from particular voices, then those voices need to be involved from the ground up.

I am afraid this entire piece is rather weak, filled with platitudes and cliches. The style is too rigid, too distant, to impact on people. AI does not cut it here.

Ask yourself, what kind of manager and leader do you want to be? Check this desire against your abilities, and always be honest with yourself. Ask your trusted friends how they rate you. A good leader must be able to look in the mirror & in the faces of his colleagues every day. Communication, HRM, the abilities to make decisions, to resolve conflicts and to collaborate are essential criteria that distinguish good from less good managers and leaders. Pay attention to your comparative advantages, what you are good at. Your well-trained areas should be expanded to focus at and to ensure quality. The less well-trained areas can only be changed naturally. Make a plan about which aspects of leadership and management you want to improve and when.

As a performing artist the work that you do is you creating art that you love and then when you work together with a team that you hired on to build or do a production that is you basically deciding that there are people who are going to help you create in your individual love for some type of art. that you're producing so remember if you hire them and you did a good job with that all of you are gifted people who love theater and therefore lead from that remember when you teach you're teaching a fellow performing artist you're just the one giving the directions you love the work so love the people too and you work and love the work and each other together and you're actually all good at what you do the production will be amazing!
