Hands-on experience is essential and one of the easiest ways to gain additional knowledge and experience to start creating solutions outside of work. Start by building examples and walking through labs, demos, and start building. Adults learn by doing and you are going to learn a lot by building and making mistakes. In that process, you are also gaining experience. Reading books and watching videos is also important, but make sure you actually get the screentime and do the examples yourself, build on them, and make your own modifications.

In my opinion, I think this is one of the most important aspects of your process automation journey. My point is: make sure you select a tool that is mainstream, popular, and one that you will most likely use in your current role or industry. All too often, I have conversations with others just starting out and they have already spent a lot of time in a software package that is either not popular, not widely used in mainstream employment opportunities, and sometimes is not the best. Learn from others and do your homework: don't spend a lot of time working in applications you will most likely never use in your career; it is very easy to discern which ones are widely approved and popular. You will thank yourself later!

You don’t need to be proficient in many Process Automation Tools, but pick 1-2 and be a SME. Have a solid fundamentals understanding of the technology tool stack and continuously update yourself on emerging technologies.

It's not what you know, its who you know. I always try to participate in meetups or tech events around my city to meet new people. LinkedIn is great for extending your network around the world, but a lot of my meaningful connections come from in-person events. Be generous with your time if you can!
