In my opinion, spotting talent within your team is often subjective. It's so important to work with people who have different skills that work well to complement each other. Something that I've found helpful in building a team that works well for me, is by seeing how people get along outside of a music industry/professional setting. Individuals in a team that works well together will often help to nurture and develop the talent of each other naturally. I've gained a lot of skills and knowledge from being surrounded by people I get along with and feel comfortable exploring new ideas and voicing my opinions.

In my experience, active listening also involves an element of critical thinking. Asking questions and trying to understand why someone may hold a specific opinion can be extremely useful to see the bigger picture, and consider things that you may not have otherwise.

Talent is as talent does. That's a quote I got from the movie "Forest Gump". Of course those who watched the movie would know that I made a twist... It's not about really seeing talent, it's really about how much energy are they putting into the work. Not even time is a factor into how much they care about a certain project. One can give in eight hours what other can give in one. And it's not about efficiency, it really comes down to how much one loves what they're doing and how much they are willing to evolve their style of doing it and how well they face adversity when it comes challenging them in their craft. To me the word "Talent" is a mythical word use by those who gave up or don't find it worth it to try.

You need to enable people to shine and fulfill their hidden potential. Don't focus on negative traits; instead, always look for the best in people and do everything you can to help them nurture their positive qualities. Many talented people may start out a bit shy or anxious, and in my experience, they are often the real hidden gems. Around nine years ago, a quiet and shy young girl started working for one of my companies. Through encouragement and praise, she grew in confidence and now manages several areas of that business, including a publishing company. She is highly respected in the music industry. A fallen acorn can grow into a great oak.
