I've always found it helpful to ask good questions of the interviewer, remember an interview is a two way process, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Great topics to understand may include; how will this role help to achieve the strategy, how would you describe the leadership style within the Company, what is your CSR policy and how would I see this living and breathing within the Company. Asking great questions shows a level of engagement which may differentiate you from other candidates.

Research helps you: 1. Boost confidence, you are able to present a dynamic and aware YOU. 2. Design a narrative aligned with the employers need, expectation and matched to your strength areas 3. Engage in an informative and precise discussion during the interview when an open ended question is thrown at you. 4. Position yourself as the most suitable candidate for the post, not only in terms of your experience and technical qualifications but also your people skills, understanding of team dynamics (or any other specific culture practised in the company).

It is very important to truly research the organization before your first contact with them. The more you know about them in advance, the better. Make certain to thoroughly visit their website and review external materials. And make sure that you understand the organization's mission and core values. How are they working to achieve their goals? How do they represent their corporate culture? Make certain to engage the interviewer in as much of a conversation as possible about your perceptions of the organization and why you would be a particularly strong fit working for them. The stronger your connections are, the better the interview should go.

This is true. Engagement is a big part of a conversation and plays a major role in the success of an interview. Practice interviewing in front of a mirror if you have to. I jokingly, but seriously, tell people at the beginning of an interview "Don't be nervous if you are. We're just two people having a conversation about a job." Within 24 hours of an interview I will send a "thank you" email thanking them for their time, expressing my excitement about being considered for the position, and then I attach my letter of recommendation from my previous employer. If I don't have access to the interviewers email, I will hand write a letter and send it to the branch addressed to them. Follow up is important in every job but especially important for when trying to land the job.

However, I believe part of being enthusiastic and passionate is about showing up with an eagerness to learn more! Ask questions and be curious!

The basics of interviewing always hold true: dress professionally; research the interviewer as much as you research the organization, and ask engaging questions; arrive early (but not too early!); send a thank you note, every single time. These things alone will make you stand out.

Be aware of the cultural considerations (at the organizational & nationalistic levels of the hiring entity). While hand gestures, expression passion etc may resonate with certain interviewers, it can be seen as off-putting to others. There is no "one size fits all" answer to this question. What worked in one interview may be the thing that disqualifies you in another. Do your research...properly. Be authentic but partner that with being mindful as to how you demonstrate that authenticity to the panel. Perhaps they prefer someone who is more meticulous and transcational than passionate because that is what the role calls for. If that is the case, emphasize that aspect of your skill set. Tune in to what the need is & seek to fill that.

In the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, Will Smith's character, Chris Gardner, showed for an interview in a tank top, with a Member's Only jacket, and jeans (after literally running on foot from jail, to arrive on time). His hair, face, neck and jeans were paint splattered. However, during his interview he exhibited every one of the qualities listed above! He has already started researching the company and field. He told a superb story of why he was dressed the way he was, he was fully engaged and enthusiastic. When asked "what would you say to a guy who showed up for an interview with no shirt on?
