Before we start looking for any new technology or solutions, we need to make sure we conduct an assessment on the existing technology to identify the gaps and risk being exposed by it. We need to focus on identifying the technology that will fix the identified risks and flaws in the new system. Example: if the current technology is having gaps in performing the realtime threat monitoring, then we need to make sure this will get addressed in the new technology which we're trying to adopt. Also, we need to focus on reducing the number of solutions that we use to secure the environment. Having multiple tools will create compatibility issues with each other and could break them. Having a single window system will help to be risk free

Keeping the platform updated will help us to safeguard us from the known exploits and secure us from the zero day vulnerabilities. Example: Most of the service providers use Apache log4j files for their log streaming. When the initial log4j exploit was identified it was difficult for every organization to identify if these packages are updated or not and the usage of the files. If we keep the system updated regularly the vendors will release the minor version to address the known issues at that time. But if we didn't upgrade them then it will be a major fix we need to apply for it. The organization's best practices need to have the n-1 version as the standard to make them free from the exploits.
