Here's how you can revamp your resume and cover letter after a fundraising layoff.

Replace passive language with action verbs that demonstrate your leadership and problem-solving skills. You spearheaded that campaign, not just "participated." Don't just blast generic applications. One thing that i have found helpful is to be honest with yourself first before being honest with stakeholders. This will ensure the sustainability of your initiative. Being honest with you will serve as your guidance towards achieving the mission and the vision of your Organization/Company. For instance, while starting my In Life community, I always use to challenge myself thinking if what i am doing, reaching out to vulnerable peoples around my region was the right thing that i should start with. I came to realize that most of the time, Vulnerable people, Marginalized individuals needs someone who listens to them, someone who cares and value their wishes, someone who is willing to share thoughts with them and exchange idea with them. I did

Focus on how you used the downtime to gain new fundraising skills. Online courses, certifications, or even volunteer work showcasing relevant software or strategies demonstrate initiative and adaptability. Quantify your past achievements with metrics like increased donor retention rates or exceeded fundraising goals. Numbers showcase value. If you have a temporary gig or volunteer experience, frame it as a chance to explore new areas of fundraising or hone transferable skills. This shows you haven't stopped growing professionally.

I have found that resume writing or updating is one of the major thing that lot of people ignore. The way your resume is highlighted reflects your past achievement, defines you and what you passed through to be where you are. You need to take enough time while writing your CV or updating it for you to impress stakeholders. Otherwise you may end up being misjudged or failure to be considered not because you are not a qualified candidate but rather miss such convincing written statement that showcase your potentials, your past achievements and your commitments. So give yourself ample time and write down that impressive resume.

For start up, I would even recommend them to have photos, just these little things that will show where you were, where you are and where you wish to be in case your idea can be digital illustrated, Why not have such digital illustration and let the stakeholders have a glimpse on it. That will keep you being on top of fundraising.

Focus on achievements, not just duties. Use strong action verbs to showcase the impact you made in your fundraising role. Quantify your results whenever possible - increased donations by X%, secured Y major donors, etc. Generic letters are a snooze. First of all, research the organization and tailor your letter to their specific fundraising challenges. Highlight skills and experiences that directly address those needs. Don't dwell on the layoff. Instead, emphasize your adaptability, problem-solving skills, and passion for the fundraising mission. Showcase your enthusiasm for new opportunities. Use the cover letter to express your interest in this specific role and how you can contribute to their success.

Once it happens to be laid off, and you wish to revamp your cover letter, I would recommend you to look for someone to act as a third party for you, You just share them everything including why you are looking for the funds, then share your resume and cover letter for them to review. Kindly consider taking into consideration the feedbacks, comments and/or suggestion from third parties as a way to improve your Cover letter and Resume.
