Look for referral agencies like Zocdoc, and use reddit threads written by counselors in your area to see which agencies are useful to you. Don't be afraid to spend money on referrals. While Zocdoc is great for me, it might not be great for counselors 2 hours north of me, or in a different state. Mental Health Match is helpful to some people, but was worthless for me. I could have saved a lot of time by cruising reddit first. My caseload is full and half of my clients came from Zocdoc. I take them on at my private practice or add them to my caseload at an agency I work with. Maintain your networking relationships, and try to be active in your community.
