Have 1 on 1 interaction with as many as seniors possible and collect knowledge with open mind. 3Failure and Iteration: R&D inherently involves experimentation and risk-taking, so failed experiments is common. Learning to persevere and iterate is key. 4)Regular followups: you have to push or ask for seniors time regularly as they would be busy all time.

Yes eagerness to learn is definitely one quality that is required in R&D. At the same time, one should be willing to unlearn. Because every organization have their own essence and hence one should be willing to learn in a different way and adapt to changes. Sometimes the challenge is to cater to the demand of consumers. One with in depth knowledge and clarity in their subject will be able to overcome such challenges. Also, one does not have to do everything alone. It is okay to ask question, take help and move forward.

With networking, you get to hear all the experiences about other's expertise and take home some points that you can add to your current workplace. Interning is all about learning and a lot of networking. For me, I love to attend conferences and join professional bodies like ISPE (for pharmaceutical engineering), even join competitions likes hackathons so that I widen my connection circle.

An example here could be an intern who connected with a senior researcher at a conference, leading to mentorship and even collaboration on a project, enhancing their practical skills and industry understanding.

I agree and I believe time management is also about discipline. When we set our goal, we also need proper strategy to achieve the goal. Similarly, in R&D, it is important to efficiently use the time to strategically complete a project successfully. It is important to know at a very early stage of career that time is the most important factor in anyone’s life.
