The first principle of effective delegation is identifying person with ability to do that task The second is to empower people to find way to do the task The third and most important is to delegate authority with responsibility

Know your team well, this is where it begins. By knowing we mean know their strengths, weaknesses & interests. This will help leaders in delegating the right tasks. The general principle is, an employee must be happy to perform well. Performance usually doesnt come under stress. Know what will keep your people happy and assign right or else motivate them to pick up the tasks you want them to perform

Delegation should be based on skills and potentials of individuals not biases. Adopt an assessment center model to gauge the skills and potential of individuals and then shortlist the opportunity areas to coach and train the individuals to take up the delegated roles.

Knowing strength of team members and create collaboration to complement together as one team then match with organisation objectives, which enable organisation to move forward.

Setting expectations should not be restricted to just assigning tasks and targets, rather walk them through the guidelines, protocols, the unseen and unrecorded norms, test them with live cases like an OJT and thereafter empower them to start execution.

Provide the delegates with the accessibility to knowledge, support and reference systems so that they are empowered using self-service mode to contribute effectively. Monitor progress and provide real-time feedback. Set-up formal reviews initially to get them calibrated and up to speed.
