Imagine this: you’re on set, the crew is ready, but the printed scripts are outdated and full of last-minute revisions. Early in my career, I faced this chaos until I switched to digital scripts. Using apps like Final Draft, I could make real-time updates and instantly share them with the team. This move not only saved paper but ensured everyone had the most current information, dramatically reducing confusion and keeping the production on track.

In terms of budgeting, wasting paper on scripts is expensive. To maintain a good budget and produce high-quality work, it’s crucial to anticipate expenses. Using digital scripts is practical and can be applied to all your productions.

Indie to high end filmmakers should rely first on a professional cinematographers, colorists, post production supervisors, before making a decision to shoot on low budget cameras, because the human factor is of essence here. If a phone camera is the only resource available, one must consider this simple phrase: "It's not about the violin, but the violinist".

There is a bunch of new gadgets to make work on set easier - from camera controls on your iphone to fancy production software. But at the end of the day, it's what you will actually use that helps you. I have an ipad pro on set. It's changed my workflow for the better because: - I have all talent and locations managers sign releases RIGHT THERE with the tablet pen - I go through my shot list piece by piece and check off each shot - I have a storyboard i've drawn using Cardflow I can show to my DP and camera crew - I pull up the script and my notes there. Everything in one place, instead of on a stool somewhere with a half-drunk can of seltzer. Get a tablet. Start with just tracking your shot list. You'll thank me!
