I like to see it under these three concepts People, Process and Technology. People: collaboration across teams, with clear communication and visibility on each other tasks and dependencies. Process: repeatable processes bring predictable results. Clear processes avoid mistakes and make it easier to onboard new team members. A good process captures multiple data points to assess and measure performance. Technology: automation is king to get results faster, and get feedback earlier to adapt accordingly. AI now brings a whole new level of intelligence on top of automation and data, helping teams to exceed their human potential.

Most designers in the enterprise sector will tell you that gathering feedback from all types of users is extremely important. Receiving feedback from people who are immediate users of the software is crucial and provides the most relevant information. This feedback is vital for any loss prevention efforts. Therefore, it is important to ask for relevant feedback from immediate users.

Planning to improve a solution should be performed on a staged bases. The initial implementation should first be similar to the existing solution in order to easy the users in transitioning to the new solution. Ideally, if the solution can be updated easily, the next iteration would be staged within a short delivery cycle and deploy functionality that will either provide easy of use or enhanced capabilities. The functionality should be a regular deployment schedule and be communicated to the users ahead of the deployment schedule. Priority of the functionality should be based on user feedback and input as solution adoption and usage is based on the user experience.

After filtering the feedback, plan an improvement strategy based on the collected data. Break down the feedback into small tasks and discuss their impact on existing implementations with the development team. Begin with simple yet impactful changes, and gradually implement the modifications to ensure users do not experience a sudden, complete change in the enterprise software.

Change management externally as well internally is critical. Ensuring all post development teams (DevOps, Customer Service, BI, etc.) are equipped to support, monitor and measure the impact is just as important to developing and deploying defect-free code.

Implementing changes in existing enterprise software is a critical process. Ensure all changes are thoroughly tested and pass through the QA process. Keep users informed by broadcasting notifications about the updates to the software. Additionally, provide detailed documentation and support resources to help users understand and adapt to the changes. Encourage user feedback on the new updates to continually refine and improve the software.

An example of I have been noticing more and more is value realization. How does an organization measure and assess the impact of their investment and roll out of Enterprise solutions. I believe moving forward, organizations start adopting models similar to value-based contracting and pricing. It would really be interesting to see!!

Changes in performance in enterprise solutions are often hard to measure immediately, and immediate testing might yield negative results even if the update is beneficial. Considering the specificity of enterprise solutions, people accustomed to old functionality will often struggle with new features. If possible, testing with users unfamiliar with the older functionality might be beneficial.

One of best ways to measure impact of the deployment is to hold either focus groups or a survey on a scheduled basis. First time should be shortly after the solution is deployed to the users to determine how successful was the implementation. Second time should be two to three months to gage the solution suitability. The third time should be six months to see if there are updates or enhancements that should be implemented. Follow ups after should be scheduled on quarterly basis to allow for additional feedback and creation of a feature roadmap for future updates.

This is underrated, your customer already has your solution, however if you combine refinement with new features, customer will see double value: you are improving the current solution but then making him/her aware of features that required some level of effort but pay off. A successful enterprise solution implementation needs a solid communication plan and early user acceptance, otherwise once the solution is rolled out and users become frustrated using the solution will cause lowered productivity and negative experiences. Communications should be started several months before the launch of the solution to allow for team members to be aware of pending changes and the purpose of deploying the implementation. Closer to the launch date communication should be more frequent and training plans and aid sheets be scheduled. Identification of solution champions should be completed and training of these Subject Matter Experts are conducted to help the users of the solution. On launch day be a celebration.
