Build out your alternatives - plans B and C - Do you have a plan if negotiations fail? Get one. Bravado isn’t sufficient. Having a well thought out plan B has obvious benefits: 1. Having other options if the current negotiation doesn’t work out gives you confidence. 2. A solid Plan B can give you more leverage and power during negotiations because you are not desperate, and it helps you make more informed and rational decisions, ensuring you don’t agree to a bad deal. 3. you can walk away from negotiations if the terms are not favorable, protecting yourself from accepting less than you deserve. Having a Plan B doesn’t mean you aren’t invested - it just means you’re prepared, informed, and ready to negotiate from a position of strength.
