1 Understanding WDM

Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a technology that increases bandwidth by allowing multiple light signals to transmit over a single fiber. 2 Dispersion Effects

Dispersion is a phenomenon where light pulses spread out as they travel through an optical fiber, potentially causing data to become distorted or lost. There are two primary types of dispersion: chromatic and modal. Chromatic dispersion occurs in single-mode fibers due to the different speeds of light wavelengths, while modal dispersion affects multi-mode fibers when different modes, or light paths, have varying travel times. - Chromatic Dispersion: caused due to different speeds for each wavelengths in fiber cable. Chromatic dispersion causes pulse spreading and distortion. This issue resolved by add DCM and used to compensate for positive dispersion to help maintain the shape of propagated signal. -Polarization Mode Dispersion: caused by asymptomatical fiber core in two polarization fields. Caused by imperfect circular fiber core and varies by external stress like lay the fiber close to train and high vibrations environments.

é por isso que é recomendado fazer o uso de limpeza com álcool isopropílico antes da fus?o para que diminua esses fen?menos garantindo uma fibra mais limpa com menos problemas n?o lineares, uma sujeira na fibra por mais que a potência fique ideal pode resultar em um desgaste mais rápido da emenda com reflexos altíssimo.

One thing I've found helpful is inspecting fiber connectors with a fiber scope to make sure it's clean. Another thing is to check the midcouplers where applicable, these can have you replacing cables needlessly, always have spares.

Generally when using an UPC connector you will always have a reflective event at any given connector. Scoping and cleaning will ensure the best results. My suggestion would be to either use APC connectors for almost 0 reflectance, or most ideally, a fusion splice which will yield the best results.

When possible, only use fusion splices in terminals, hand holes and manholes, APC connectors work well but personally wouldn't use them, there better suited for a controlled indoor environment such as a C.O. and or remote hut.

One more thing is to calculate the loss budget which is essential in designing your network. You have to consider the fiber loss, connector loss, splice loss as well as the miscellaneous losses.

An optical fiber loss budget is a great starting point or estimate of what the fiber loss over distance should be. Once the loss budget is created, then a full fiber characteristic test should be conducted. Fiber characteristics test on each strand will allow the engineers to know the fibers full capabilities. This will allow engineers to s design network to its fullest. It will also allow technicians to identify problems earlier or catch potential issues before it becomes a major problem.

Una de las cosas esenciales para poder solucionar los problemas en una red de fibra optica es ser prolijos desde el principio, llevando un registro de los secuenciales de los cables instalados, en las acometidas, en las reservas; ubicaciones exactas de los empalmes, tener mediciones previas en el momento de cada instalacion para poder comparar. Ojo no solo al principio sino al momento de realizar una nueva instalacion actualizar ese registro. Yo llevo a cabo estos metodos y son muy efectivos para minimizar los tiempos de reparacion, a su vez minimiza el tiempo de interrupcion del servicio
