If it will take 3 years or more, consider breaking down your goals into layers. What are the high level goals required to achieve the vision? What goals need to be accomplished within the next 3 years to be on target? What goals need to be accomplished in the next year to achieve the 3-year goals. What needs to get done this quarter to hit your annual goals. If you don’t break it down similar to this, many people will struggle to connect what they need to focus on right now to achieve something that could be many years down the road. Doing this improves the odds that you stay aligned along the way.
