On a personal note it is important to look at one’s personal and professional goals. There may come a time when our goals change and what we may seek towards the second half of our careers may be different from where we started. For me personally, a move towards college counselling from IBDP teaching, seemed like a logical conclusion and a shift after working with young adults for years. Being able to to understand their needs, goals and aspirations, helped me to help them realise the higher education goals of students. So my advice is to build on one’s own strengths and look at what one finally wants to achieve. What we want from our professional lives will keep changing as we grow and mature, so assessing one’s goals is the way forward.
