In my experience budgeting should neither be a tick box tax or nor a binded paper , budget needs to be made as per best of information / analysis possible and to be reviewed and updated in change in circumstances to keep it relavant with time. Shorter time broken budget to annual have more value as well.

From my experience, the most important thing is to start with the "end in the mind". The end here means, the profitability & business KPI's.

I agree that risk management is important, but think that people put too much emphasis on planning and mitigation. Yes, the winds will change. Yes, storms will come. Yes, the unexpected will occur. What this means is you need to be able to confidently sail your own vessel and react to change when it happens. If you sit and think about risks all day you will never leave port. Engineers tend to be conservative in their thinking, and that prevents bridges from collapsing and planes from dropping out of the sky, which is great. But hyper-vigilance has a downside when it comes to progress. Take calculated, not stupid, risks and learn from the outcomes. You can't manage everything so don't even try to.

Product pricing can start with cost+ margin. However there are 2 other dimensions drive the margin. First one is based on the customer segment or the sector since different groups have different credit risk characteristics if the sale is on credit terms. Second dimension is based on the delivery channel - ie physical vs online sales which have material cost efficiencies

The only pricing strategy that makes any sense at all is value pricing. Do you really think you can go to a client and say "I charge $120 an hour because I have a mortgage, car payment, and two kids to put through college, plus profit"? Because that's exactly what you are doing when you use cost-plus pricing. Don't do it. Get a book on value pricing and read it, then learn how to use it. If you are not able to bring value while confidently obtaining a share of the value you are bringing, you are probably not cut out for entrepreneurship.
