Here's how you can navigate failure and maintain professionalism as a teacher.

When encountering failure, it's crucial to approach it without self-judgment. I remind myself that setbacks are a natural part of every teacher's journey and do not reflect my abilities. Confronting the failure head-on enables me to assess what went wrong and why. This process of reflection isn't about dwelling on the negative but rather about comprehending the circumstances that contributed to the setback. Through this analysis, I can develop a strategy to navigate similar challenges in the future, transforming moments of failure into opportunities for growth and enhancement.

When you encounter a moment of failure, it is important to acknowledge it head on. Try to figure out where you made the mistake, and know that your mistakes do not define you. It is human for us to make mistakes, and most importantly, you should do some serious self-reflection as to how you will improve next time.

When setbacks arise in the classroom, navigate them with professionalism. Here's the key: Learn from it! Analyze what went wrong, adjust your approach, and openly discuss challenges with colleagues. This growth mindset shows students resilience and fosters a collaborative learning environment.

Allow perspectives from your other colleagues. Seek feedback from the principal, your fellow teacher colleagues, parents, and even students. They might be able to suggest things that we would ordinarily overlook. This fresh perspective can really help us with next steps, and being able to take constructive criticism and learn from it is a must-skill to have!

Failure should be seen as a beginning, not an end. It is a data point giving you information on what did not work. Now, it's time to find some new solutions. Failure should be reflected on to find what caused the failure: do you need more scaffolding built in? Was it a management or pacing issue? Maybe you just didn't "feel" that lesson and your attitude and vibe was passed to your students. Step back, reflect, and adjust. Ask for feedback from your colleagues. Share your experience. The important thing to note is that YOU aren't the failure, and you are not alone.

Always try to see the positive side of things. For example, when you are faced with a constructive comment, refrain from fighting back or feelings of disappointment. Rather, try to understand the other person's reasoning behind the criticism, and brainstorm how you can turn it into a positive spin. Perhaps it is pointing you in another direction to consider something you wouldn't have otherwise.

Resilience involves bouncing back from setbacks and getting stronger with every failure. There is no success without failure. Therefore, we need to be willing and comfortable with failing a few times before we get it right. Nobody is perfect, and it is inevitable that we will make mistakes. When we recognize this, we will be better equipped to deal with tricky situations in the future.

En distintos contextos he reflexionado al respecto, y pienso que tanto el éxito como el fracaso pueden llevar a la euforia o la depresión, y ello implica una falta de criterio para evaluar adecuadamente nuestras acciones y proyectos, lo que nos aleja de la realidad. No basta con decir que todo es relativo, hay que darle valor a los momentos de crecimiento y desarrollo y entender que el fin de un proceso no es más que el comienzo de otro. En educación puede considerarse un fracaso al tener expectativas exageradamente altas en los resultados de los estudiantes que al final demuestran serias debilidades, y es porque no hemos puesto el acento tanto en el diagnóstico como en el desarrollo del proceso de aprendizaje. Resiliencia es aprendizaje.

A teacher who practices, builds and models resilience: let us just imagine the meaningful impact on the humans we have the privilege of leading? Beyond transmitting knowledge and experience, it is touching lives so students (no matter how young or old) can do so themselves. Building resilience in my eyes includes acknowledging our limits, accepting and asking for help. But this is a practice, a habit to put in place that can be accomplished when we surround ourselves with a supportive network who can encourage us and help us see our blindspots.

Lo que más útil ha sido para mí es saber que no puedo saberlo todo. Ese hecho, me quitó un gran peso de encima. Como docentes, debemos trasladar conocimiento, ser el vehículo entre ese concepto abstracto y el alumno que lo quiere aprender. Por eso, una de las principales virtudes del docente es la humildad, la aceptación de no saber para aprender y luego, ser capaces de hacer que los demás sigan ese proceso de la mejor manera. Si además lo podemos hacer más eficiente, entonces rozaremos la excelencia
