Managing roles with clarity is very important. I have a rudimentary take on "Understanding Roles." Usability testers test to find issues and Designers design to address the issues found. This does not mean that testers shouldn't think about solutions to the issues and designers test ideas before detailing out the design. In a harmonious team, designers attend usability testing sessions and usability team members attend design sessions. When the shift happens from testing to "critique of designer" and from designing to "defending personal design choices" then I have observed harmony gets disrupted. Experienced managers prevent this shift from happening. Such managers are critical for better overall UX development.

The fact that the usability testers collect data and UX designers use it to improve the quality of the product, but many companies believe that the same specialist should do it all, and in addition, he should also deal with other expertise not related to his specialisation.
