There are zero shortcuts. Don't be afraid to start at the absolute "bottom" of the ladder. If someone hands you a broom, use it like you love it. You will not become a director until you can use that broom better than the next guy...with a smile on your face. Show up early...and stay late. Ask three good questions every single day...and you will find professionals eager to show you the ropes. Show your appreciation by doing small favors (get the coffee, offer to run any errand). Be someone they want to have around. It's a business of PEOPLE, not skillsets.

Know that you cannot truly know anything! What the hell am I saying? Knowing that you can't know anything is really about being ready to learn with an open heart and an open mind. Through that process, you'll find yourself with a truly universal set of skills, enriched by every encounter, enriched by every job, and enriched by every person.
