The more you understand about the business of your organization's business, the more effective you will be at applying your communications skills and helping the organization achieve its results.

Networking is how I built my comms career. Attend events held by the chamber of commerce, industry experts, webinars, etc. Put yourself out there. Tell people who you are and what you can do. Get a mentor, and find someone who inspires you at work. Be bold! Please don't wait until you tell your story and what you want to achieve. You never know who you will meet who can help you along the way. Build those connections, it could be a neighbor, a friend, a colleague, or an acquaintance who can help you.
