Practice your skills with tools like Sketch, Adobe XD, and Figma, and build a compelling portfolio that highlights your problem-solving prowess. I transitioned from Bioengineering to Product design and I have a few points to add based on my experience: - Don't just follow the trend. I see many people around me who think UX is easy to do, it's in demand, and there is good money in it but with this mindset, they get into UX and later lack even the basic understanding of user experience. If you're genuinely passionate about this field then only get into it. - Talk to Product Designers who are already in the industry and understand what it's like to be a Product Designer in the real world, what kind of work you will be getting, and what skills you will need to excel. - Understand the difference between UX, UI, & PD. Trust me, you need this clarity to navigate your transition.

Considering a career switch to product design? I made that move through General Assembly's UX Design Immersive, and it was transformative. The course dives deep into practical skills and immediately applies them by pairing you with startups. This hands-on experience is invaluable. Also, the alumni network is fantastic—full of experienced and emerging designers eager to share insights and opportunities. Enrolling in this course was a pivotal step that accelerated my transition into product design. It’s a practical and impactful way to enter the field.

Critique can be very powerful if it is constructive. A designer can also seek out specific feedback, and really guide how feedback is given and received. Actively let the stakeholders know what area of the design you are seeking their opinions on. You can really fine tune this and receive valuable feedback. When seeking out feedback make sure to involve stakeholders and team members from diverse backgrounds in the design process to challenge logical assumptions. This can help uncover blind spots and ensure a more holistic approach to UX design.
