If you don't have a passion or at least a good understanding of VR then you stand no chance in the VR QA space, it is crucial. Knowing what players like, what makes them feel sick, what puts them in pain, etc are all things that must be taken into account when testing functions or equipment. Having the hardware is the key of course, without it after all you have nothing, and having the company provide it makes it much more likely you will get the best testers and they will enjoy it on top of working with it. .

As anyone that has used VR can say the UX is vital, key, core, and everything. Testing how your interactions work is one of your core responsibilities in all cases. Or else users will have issues guaranteed at release. Following the guidelines for UX for platforms is also vital, such as VRC guidlines for Oculus Quest which are required and sometimes recommended for release to begin with.
