Internship to be semester based only Paid or unpaid This should be linked with your semester subjects What ever you read in that semester as theory u should visit related industry and what ever you are reading u shall see pratilically being used For this u need to have a passion in what u r doing Fgor example During 1semeater engineering drawing and mathematics are the one which u have to join a cad lab learn it as a intern

Especially for the interns firstly they have to set the goals. what they want to do in the future. In which field they have intrested. Eg. If mechanical engineer completely done and then your interest in computer field just like IT and software or programmer. Then your money is waste, what you done before. Many students change there field after completing engineering. Interns having change where they want to go. Check the mechanical dept having lots of other Dept's . Just like design, procurement, project handling, production, product development and many more.. So, do whatever in life before you criticize yourself. And take best desicion to avoid your parents money in waste.

I find the broadest view on learning a lot of information in a short time is not to get hung up on one skill over other skills.

The interns in our company which is a paint manufacturing unit are asked to bring their practical journals & conduct the parallel trials at work to understand the concept better. Making pilot batches , developing new products, understanding applications shall be an experience to the intern & upgrade their knowledge.

For a Engineering student , internship is first exposure to industry, for whom s/he is being prepared. Interns should follow some time tested documentation like maintaining a journal & sketch book or portfolio in either form e or hard copy. It would give overview of your learning and remarks there on. This record would be helpful in future for getting a job. similarly the students working on design or CAD ( manufacturing ) may keep the details of their design, flow diagram, notes on preliminary design , design selection and how does it meets the goals.
