Moreover flexible work makes sure that programmers have the freedom to work anywhere and anytime. The only thing they need is their device (usually a good laptop with high technical specs), internet connection and a good VPN to help get access on crucial company data. Keep connected with your team members, have a chat on call sometimes and keep in touch to stay informed and updated on recent events and the project and work.

If you are blocked on a task and need urgent assistance, do not wait for the next meeting. Instead, try to work asynchronously. You can message the person who can unblock you, schedule a meeting with them, and wait for their response.

As soon as you have code that’s ready for review, you’re going to want to immediately ping everyone on your team that you’ve completed a task and it’s awaiting review. That way everyone knows the status of your work

Usually when you do a pull request (PR) of your code, you ask for permission from someone in the team (maybe a senior developer) to add it into the target branch (target version) you have defined. You need atleast one reviewer as mandatory and can add zero to multiple optional reviewers if you think their point of view matters. Give as reviewer feedback as soon as you have time to do so (usually if you have worked on a 2 week sprint, you review the code asap and add it into the next release branch). If you are the developer who gets feedback due to an improvement you have to do, finish that task to make sure your code gets accepted.

I’ve said this time and time again, communication is hard!!! Make sure you practice your professional messaging and emails daily with a friend or AI chat. Communication is something no AI can teach you. AI learns with our data and is not a super terestrial being. Sorry to say that to all people who have a different opinion and think that AI can solve everything nowadays but I think someone should say that. We humans have a communication way and style which no AI can adopt that quick. Yes, AI is improving fast but still its not a human so it never will be. Be nice in your team and respect each other and motivate each other to solve problems. Because thats your job, people! Most people or lets say, new programmers or junior developers think that programming is just typing code. Its not everything you do! You guys are problem solvers and there will be many problems to solve during your time.

Regular one-on-ones is a powerful framework to keep the dialogue alive. It's not necessary for manager vs. employee communication, you might also schedule regular one-on-one with people from other teams and departments you might want to get advice from. Just be sure you have topics for such regular catch-ups. There are plenty of tools providing ready-to-be-used question/topic lists, you might check HyperContext or Asana. Just make sure the list of topics to discuss is available for both communication partners upfront, preparation is important here.

Communication is not a one way street. Make sure your responses, posts, and questions have “call to actions” which are basic prompts to encourage the message recipient to message you back

Something that I often do is add a personal touch to my emails. I often remain professional with customers and coworkers I don’t talk too often, but for coworkers that I communicate frequently with and have a strong relationship with, I will keep things light and less professional to keep me from sounding like a robot
