The field of IT is never static. The only constant is change - and as an experienced manager one should not only understand the changes in technology but also foresee them and prepare the team providing them with the needed training. Any team should be a good mix of experienced members as well as a few technology specialists or consultants. These consultants not only fill the knowledge gap but also help the existing team members pick up the required new knowledge. A savvy manager should always look to build such hybrid teams to meet the challenges posed by technology shifts or new developments which are inevitable from time to time.

I'm working in IT for almost 30 years and even today I'm still learning every day. 1. Continuos education - stay relevant with latest technology trends 2. Adapt - be open to changes and willing to adopt a new tools and methodologies 3. Networking - engage with industry experts via professional networks and platforms 4. Mentoring - share you knowledge and experience, this will help also you with new ideas and perspectives 5. Soft skills - don't forget to work also on skills like communication, leadership, project management

Make it a habit to learn about emerging technologies all the time, through: - subscribing to different newsletters (e.g: ISACA, techrepublic, etc.) - looking at the newest required skills and acquiring new certifications - Listening to tech podcasts - Attending conferences (Gartner, ISACA, ISC2 conferences) etc. as they give you a chance not only to learn about the newest trends but also network with peers who share with you the same passions and could help you experience working with new technologies

The biggest challenge I've noticed, both in myself and others, is admitting when we don't know or understand something. If you don't show a willingness to learn, it will take much longer, and you'll likely miss many things. My advice is, don't pretend to know something if you don't. Ask for help and explanations, and you'll grow much faster.
