Use your internship as an opportunity to learn. Good control engineers understand the machine or the process that is to be controlled. Learn the processes; gain a solid understanding of how motors, valves, actuators, hydraulics work. Learn as much as you can by talking to your colleagues; read up on the equipment, and the hardware and software used to control the equipment.
