It's important to embrace change in your field to stay adaptable and open-minded, but even more so for a late career professional. Industries are constantly changing, and staying stagnant prevents you from growing. Some industries have disappeared because of new technologies Take Blockbuster that refused to innovate, Netflix innovated and is still around today. The same can happen to you if you decide to stay the same. By being open to new ideas, technologies, and methodologies, you can adapt and thrive in a changing work environment. Embracing change also means being willing to step out of your comfort zone, take on new challenges, and innovate.

Change is the only constant as the market is volatile and dynamic. New technological innovations and developments are emerging every day that need to be embraced if one wants to remain competitive and valid.

Lean into change with an open heart and open mind as it may reveal something to you that completely shifts the trajectory of your life. Here are my top hacks to invite in change in a way that doesn't feel intimidating or overwhelming: 1. Reach out to someone who has successfully navigated a later-in-life transition. It's always uplifting to hear from someone who's been there and done that and to know you're not alone. 2. Immerse yourself in environments where other people have the desire to grow too such as networking events, book clubs etc. 3. Go to workshops or seminars on topics that interest and excite you.

We all need a light to inspire us to move toward. It is true we all have our path and we can use the experience and wisdom of those who walk the path ahead of us. This might comprise decades into months. We get ideas, we explore and integrate those elements that are useful to us in specific contexts. My best mentoring came from choosing informal mentors along side the formal ones that “are allocated to us”.

I think if you are mentoring thoughtfully and intelligently you will choose people to mentor who will in turn teach you. You don't need an older or established person necessarily. Those with young legs, recent education, raw energy, and new perspectives can keep you sharp. It's a perfect complimentary (or perhaps supplementary) arrangement.

Even if you're experienced in your field, there's always something you can learn from others. Having mentors doesn't mean looking for someone older. Sometimes younger colleagues have fresh perspectives and skills like technology they can share with you. Building relationships with mentors allows you to learn from their successes and failures, gain different perspectives, and resolve complex situations more effectively. Mentors also help you expand your professional network and connect you with new opportunities. A mentor-mentee relationship is beneficial for both parties because it promotes mutual growth.

Mentors, mastermind and/or personal board of directors. There is so much wisdom out there. Many folks that would love to teach someone, to help navigate through life. The youth and elder combination is one that needs exploring. There is such beauty in it. Reach out to someone, you will be surprised.

Your network determines your net worth. I am a huge believer in this. We become our environment, so surround yourself with people that help you grow, challenge you, help you see things with a different lens. We become the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Choose wisely my friend.

Some people achieve success straight forward in their careers while some find their way after struggling for few years. Finally, there are those who find their way quite late. With the technological advances happening, we are currently at the point where the third category is growing. If you are in the third category, start understanding what is happening around you on the technological front and what is expected to happen. Keep your mind open to learn new things. Create a network of experts and colleagues who will be able to help you. Most importantly never hesitate to ask for help. I know a very senior person who did his masters in his early 50s. His passion to learn was unbelievable and he was ready to share to others what he had learn.
