I am always astounded by how many articles and discussions regarding skills required by Data Science Teams completely overlook the importance of core statistical & mathematical skills required for the job. Just like this article here talks about technical skills, programming skills, business acumen, critical thinking skills but does not mention Statistical skills anywhere, the business world rushes into hiring people with coding/other expertise in data science without truly testing for a fundamental statistical concept clarity. This is probably why the number of errors is higher than should be and why so many ML and LLMs are having issues with the output being consistent and reliable. NUMBER 1 NEED for data hire: Need to truly know data!!

You need a balance among the traits that have been mentioned. And in my view, having too many technically strongmen is not going to take a team far either. In my experience, a good DS team should have the following attributes: 1. Multi taskers: they can switch to tasks without much difficulty. 2. Feel Ok to get into boring stuff sometimes: Its also usual, specially when you are working with data annotations. 3. Have a good balance of business and technical acumen: Doing something at its best is good, but also judging that whether doing it that good is beneficial or not. 4. Have perseverance: Its okay to fail. Coming out of it with another plan, with the same zeal and hope. 5. Share success: Share your success with everyone in the team.
