Listening to different points of view and understanding the conflict is the key for eradicating them. Conflicts occur and that is normal, yet the ability of redemption is one of the characteristics of an effective facilitator. It is vital that facilitators can explain and neutralize conflicts and relate that to effective team work and possible structured ways of solving problems in real life situations. Reconocer el conflicto es el primer paso hacia su solución, un gran hito que nos permitirá gestionarlo de la mejor manera. Identificar qué está sucediendo y enfrentarlo es primordial. Resulta de valor analizar en qué medida el conflicto nos afecta a todos y recibir del equipo retroalimentación y sugerencias sobre la causa raíz y generar una lluvia de ideas sobre cómo solventarlo. Involucrar al equipo en su solución facilitará la adopción de medidas y el compromiso sostenible para evitar la repetición del conflicto.

One thing I found useful is to have a calm aptitude along with good listening and observation skills. Listening not only to the words that are being said but also noticing tone and tenor of the sententences. Most of the time tone and tenor will tell you about the brewing conflict. Non-verbal cues are very important, in recognizing conflict. Body language, eye movements, facial movements, hand movements etc. Many times crossed arms with absolute silence is also an indication of conflict. Many people avoid conversation when they do not like where things are going. In this situation it is important to encourage participation in conversation to understand what is going on in their minds.

Good facilitators need to stay neutral during conflict. They need to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable to keep their point of view fearlessly. Facilitators need to encourage conversation and discussion among the involved parties. Facilitator need to listen with a neutral mindset. Good facilitators listen calmly and try to bring all involved parties to common ground.

Stay Neutral is to maintain neutrality and avoid taking sides.My role is to guide the discussion, not to influence the outcome.

Le dialogue commence quand chaque partie accepte de dire ce qu'il ressent et ce qu'il souhaite. La modération des propos et la reformulation est capitale.

Même si on reste neutre, il est important de reconna?tre l'intérêt et le bien-fondé des idées/avis/positions de nos interlocuteurs. Mettre en lumière les points forts de chaque partie avant de questionner sur la manière d'obtenir d'autres bénéfices attendus. Souligner l'importance de leur participation auprès des personnes qui vous semble être les plus récalcitrantes.

Pour trouver le terrain d'entente, il faut reformuler le ressenti de chacune des parties et le faire valider pour comprendre ce que chaque partie souhaite. Ainsi, on peut comprendre les mécanismes et chercher ce que chacun souhaite.

In my experience listening to every participant and discussing pros and cons of their solutions Infront of everyone, works well. All the participants feel respected that they have been heard and feel validated. It is easy to find common ground while discussing the pros and cons of every solution on the table. Mostly people are working towards an objective and the solution that offers more pros than cons help bring all the participants agreeing to it. Encouraging participation and discussion facilitates collaborative decision making and finding solution.

Follow ups are important. After a solution has been agreed upon, it is critical to follow up. Following up and reiterating the benefits of the agreed solution to all the participants are important steps for conflict resolution. All the participants must accept and recognize that an agreed upon solution is for everyone's benefit including them. Following up sometimes also leads to improvement in the solution and participants adopt it and think about it in a positive way and may come up with something to add to it. Following resolves the conflict for long time and there are rare chances that conflict comes up again. Follow-up also ensures that agreed upon solutions are being implemented.
