I have changed my approach a bit in recent times. I watched a talk by Marcus Buckingham that made me reflect. Here is my approach:the areas of opportunities are the person's strengths. It is good to know the weaknesses and employ steps to mitigate them. I think it is even more important to focus on the strengths and put a plan of action together to excel in them. This could lead to personal and professional growth. Think about it: if someone is good at inspiring people but not great at setting up a plan, which one do you want him/her to excel in?

When it comes to giving feedback, there are some key things to keep in mind. Understanding the person you're giving feedback to is crucial, but what takes it to the next level is having real-time observations of their performance, behaviour, and attitude. If you don't have that, it's best to hold off on giving feedback. I found the S.T.A.R. format to be really effective. It's widely used in the interview process, and I've found it to be incredibly useful when giving feedback. The S.T.A.R. format involves describing the situation, outlining the task, detailing the actions taken, and showcasing the results. It's a great way to provide structured and valuable feedback.
