Here's how you can gauge the effects of collaboration and teamwork on leadership growth.

How can you evaluate impact if you don't know what this impact looks like? Ask yourself, what do I want this team to accomplish and how can it be measured or evaluated? Sometimes it's not quantitative but qualitative, but is there a way at the end of the month/quarter/year to know whether we achieved our goals? What doesn't get measured or evaluated, cannot improve.

Many leaders believe that the first step to create great teamwork is to conduct team building activities. DON'T! Following points need to be addressed first: ? What is the purpose of this team - Why does it exist? ? The team needs to be aligned, and every team member should give the same answer to this question. ? Are the goals crystal clear to everyone? ? Having a dashboard of some sort where everyone can find the goals and what needs to be done next is a must. ? Does everyone know their role in the team? ? Everyone knows their where their own and others' responsibility starts and ends AND is aware of what they need to do next (tasks). And only now, team building activities make sense.

Let there be feedback and truth telling in your team. When team members feel safe to provide feedback and communicate openly, they feel more trust and collaborate better. It's not a collaboration if the input is only one way. Then it's more of a "dictatorship"! So strong leadership is about creating an environment of psychological safety, feedback and trust where your team is valued, respected and encouraged to take ownership of their individual and team goals.

If there was a penny for every conflict that was avoided in the workplace... Leaders typically either fear and avoid conflict, or lunge forward clumsily and then regret it deeply. It's impossible to have leadership without disagreements and different perspectives, so conflict resolution is an essential skill. The way you as a leader, or your team, approaches and deals with conflict is a reflection of your maturity and wisdom. Assess the situation, see the other side, regulate your nervous system before you engage, practice empathy and mindful communication, remember your goal is not to win but to lean in with the intention of being changed to find the best solution for both parties.

Encouraging teamwork and collaboration on your team and lead to unexpected innovation. Work to create an environment in which the team feels empowered to share their ideas (without judgement for fear of failure). You’ll be surprised the difference you need in productivity and output.
