Mind management by means of self-introspection and meditation greatly enlivens my intuitive and rational abilities as Materials Science Researcher, giving the ability to think through research problems as well as discover unique novelties and applcations in the existing state of the art.

It also involves not doing things that hurt people. Don't laugh at people's mistakes, especially not in front of a group. Recognise that when somebody is learning, they will make mistakes, and share something you found hard when you were learning to make them feel less alone. Watch how you talk to people - do you acknowledge or criticise different things or with different amounts of harshness in different people? Do you default to thinking some people are lazy or stupid without knowing all the background? If you do, they WILL have noticed. You have to earn trust and not break it.

Team spirit is crucial. When there's a problem, leadership techniques can make a major contribution to positive team dynamics.

It's really not that delicate - you have to honestly know that mistakes are an integral part of the journey to getting it right, and honestly want the person to succeed. A mistake is a learning opportunity. When you go to tell somebody they have made a mistake, actually tell them you see an opportunity to make the work better by changing this bit. They didn't come to you to be made to feel bad, they came to you because they felt you could add value to the work - so act like it.

The team leader must encourage clear communication by promoting active listening and constructive feedback in a respectable manner.

The way I usually do is: let the person do the mistake if there is no big consequence, or stop before it goes further. Then I ask honestly what the person think is going to happen. I may orient them further, give a clue to help. No shaming, just constructively discuss the potential consequences and how to avoid it. This of course if that person is ready to liste and learn...

Offering constructive feedback should be given in a sympathetic and constructive way, emphasizing particular actions or results over personal attack. Team members can be supported in their professional development by understanding their areas of strength and opportunity for growth.

As for every conflict, communication is usually the main culprit: misunderstanging, cultural difference. Opening the dialog is essential. "Did something happened? Is there something wrong". No underlying talk, honesty

These teams will often have chemists, chemical engineers, solid state physicists, nanoengineers and several other technical scientists project managers and non-technical team members. With a multidisciplinary team comes the need for aligning clearly on the project goals and having the correct stakeholders and experts involved. Engage the team by celebrating milestone goal meets, and giving positive feedback when challenging goals are met (even if late). Pair early-career team members with experienced team members to create a positive learning experience. Check-in with team members in person and talk one on one about road-blocks and thank everyone for contributions frequently.

Stress the value of cooperation and teamwork in accomplishing shared objectives. Promote cross-functional cooperation and give team members chances to collaborate, exchange expertise, and aid in the personal and professional development of one another.

Materials Science wouldn’t be where it is today without applying that philosophy to the rest of the operations and procedures.

I managed a team of material science experts for over 20 years. Their work level was from technicians to PHD scientists. I always told my team, even though I was the boss, I was also part of the team. I made a point to talk with everyone every day relative to their projects, how work was going with other teams and anything else they might bring up. If they had a problem with someone in another team or our team we would discuss it. Also most importantly, if I had an issue with any of my team members, such as talking on the phone too much or others at work, taking too many breaks or not getting to work on time, we had a one on one discussion and I made sure they listened to me. I considered my self a tough boss, but also very fair.

Each person has it's habilities. The ideal situation will be to know thé people you works with and distribute the tasks and organise the work according to those affinities.
