A venture capitalist's role is unique: on one hand we are accountable to our investors, on the other hand, we are tasked to support our investees, as only when our investees are successful can we account for the trust that our investors and LPs put on us. In this aspect, the team needs to empathise with the struggles of the entrepreneur and look for ways within its network to support entrepreneurs in their growth journeys. Entrepreneurs are mostly good at running the business and solving problems, but they may lack the skills in corporate finance and development, which the VC can bring to the table. When there is empathy towards the founder, it becomes easier to build trust for better support by the VC team.

From my experience, I would also add two more important points: - Be responsive to founders and other investors. Venture capital is a relationship business and remember that your network is your net worth. - Encourage diversity and inclusion both at your VC firm and at the portfolio companies you are supporting. More diverse companies tend to outperform financially and foster a stronger company culture.

Encourage a healthy balance between work and personal life. Respecting personal time and boundaries prevents burnout and builds a more committed and happier team.
