Honestly i struggle with this one, do shy away from initiating conversation but when i have stepped it up it has been so rewarding and meaningful relations and collaborations started. People go to this events because they are eager to talk, and share and get to know new people. So, wherever you are, check if there is any event happening soon, join and just go and talk. To check for sustainability events you can do it by city, topic, or check the big organizations and foundations web pages, see what they are doing/sharing. Follow them on Linkedin and you will start learning from lots of events, whenever there is one near you, go.

From my first experience volunteering in an organic farm in Costa Rica, about 15 years ago, I learned so much about what's behind the scenes of food growing, both organic and non-organic. Many people see volunteering as free labour but if done properly, it's more like practical learning, cultural and social exchange and a great excuse to get new skills. I wouldn't have been able to get many jobs I worked at without volunteering. Experiences haven't always been positive but definitely memorable and life forming. Plus I've made long lasting connections and friendships through volunteering. I would recommend volunteering to everyone!
