Here's how you can extract valuable lessons from career failures.

Failures means u still have the opportunity to start again and again, never give up. Every time u start think about how to move on without thinking about how many time u did the same thing. Every start means new beginning for new things with different means.

Failure, while it always hurts, both the bottom line, and your pride, is an opportunity to learn. I always file failures for future use. Next time the problem arises, I have more knowledge.

One thing I have found immensely helpful is that failure is essential in the learning process, it shapes your future judgement and experience but most important it bears a fruit of growth and perseverence.

I am encouraged by this perseverance if learning and success, because failure isn't being stupid but learning to understand things better.

While I hate making mistakes as a perfectionist, I always take responsibility for them. I seek out feedback from others involved to find the areas that need improvement or to view from a different perspective. Then make any necessary changes moving forward.

I am a firm believer that there is always more to learn. I have a lot of knowledge within my company, having moved up the ranks over the years. It empowers me to learn more. If I have a setback, I will ask everyone involved what happened and how we can improve next time. We ALL make mistakes. We are human and I say this to my team regularly. This is how we LEARN.

Mentors and Peers, Get insights from trusted colleagues or mentors who can provide an outside perspective. Performance Reviews, Review any formal feedback received during the period of failure.

One thing I've found helpful is to seek out mentors. You can share your struggles and your highlights. Share what works and doesn't for each of you. You both learn tips and tricks from each other. Those mentors also become part of your network. I've also found that indoor cycling has been a tremendous stress reliever and a place to work through scenarios in your head.

I can be short-tempered at times. I recognize this about myself and I try to be patient and calm when explaining things (even repeatedly). There are skills I need to improve upon. I try to find a dynamic where I am being soft enough for certain personalities, while being effective with my communication at the same time. I can always stand to improve in this area. I have left work after letting someone go, wondering if there is more I could have done to help them grow. I agree that reflection and thought after situations such as these is important.

Planning ahead has always been my MO. With every failure, I learn. I implement new policies, new verbiage, new forms, etc. Where I see consistent failures, I start at the beginning and evaluate where the breakdown is. I have successfully implemented several new policies and procedures that have proven to be valuable. I consistently ask for feedback from my team and we discuss workflow and ways to streamline our processes and time while still being accurate and effective.

Having moved through several positions within the same company, I have learned many things. Most of the positions I have transitioned to, were being run the same way they were run 10 years ago. As a newcomer, I take over these processes and I see a better, or more efficient way to do them. I recently moved from CSR / Dispatch manager to CAO, at my company. I had implemented many processes in the CSR and Dispatch areas. I was new to the transportation industry when I started; however, I believe it sometimes takes a new viewpoint to improve processes because people get bogged down in the way they have always done it. I was immediately able to identify time bogs in my new position and implement new technology, streamlining process.

Resilience is something you learn with age and experience. Growing confidence in myself has been of great help. As you gain experience, receive promotions and keeping a good network of current and previous coworkers/managers, you find those folks requesting your assistance at their new places of employment or just general help after they've left the organization.
