Para explorar oportunidades de crescimento como desenvolvedor de banco de dados, é importante PRATICAR todos os dias, entender nuances antes mesmo delas acontecerem(basicamente um estudo direcionado a problema). Dominar SQL, a linguagem padr?o para sistemas de gerenciamento de banco de dados relacional, é essencial(obviamente). Adicionalmente, familiarizar-se com bancos de dados NoSQL, que gerenciam dados n?o estruturados, pode e vai ser um diferencial(muitas vezes é melhor desacoplar em um nosql). Nunca pare de aprender nem pense que já sabe o suficiente, você n?o sabe.

This is one thing that remains constant irrespective of the domain/industry/skillsets one possesses. Skill will help you excel in the role while networking will help you keep the job and grow. It’s very important that people at all levels should have networking focus as this could open unexpected opportunities. It needs to be done consciously and it’s important that one balances the networking with adding value to the discussion and not just being greedy about oneself. If played well, networking would take you to the heights that one would not have imagined otherwise.

The world of data that we are used to today is so complex. There are so many factors to consider like storage, access, retrieval, security, application, etc. That choosing or deciding where to begin, specialization can be daunting. It is important to consider your interest, strengths and future career aspirations before specializing in a specific or niche row or technology. With that being said while up skilling be sure to try and explore different areas for future growth and development.

Especializarse en un área particular puede dar un enfoque claro a tu carrera. En mi caso, elegí especializarme en la optimización de consultas y la gestión de rendimiento de bases de datos. Esto no solo me hizo más valioso en mi equipo, sino que también me permitió contribuir más efectivamente a proyectos complejos. La clave es identificar una especialización que se alinee con tus intereses y las necesidades del mercado.

With the evolution of LLMs and ChatGPT, one might feel that specialist are not in demand as everyone can be a generalist and solve problems using prompts. In reality though, generalists can only solve generic problems and to solve a problem that’s created by AI, it would still need a specialist mind. So, even though being a generalist increases your employability it won’t hurt to be a specialist in a specific area if you want to rise in the ranks and are passionate about databases. It’s a different world charm to solve problems that no one else could solve and being the go to person in any setting.

It will be great in the long run as different domains have different types of data and the challenges that it throws at you are diverse too. Exploring multiple domains widens your horizons and makes your skill diverse when it comes to data management. It also helps to have a wider understanding of the data pipelines used in multiple industries. Now with the advent of CDO i.e. Chief Data Officer roles, it’s important to get exposure to data management across multiple industries. This would enable and open opportunities towards CDO roles in future.
