Mistakes are good, because it humanizes you as a presenter. Now we're not talking about stumbling throughout the presentation, but simple mispronounced words can happen during a fantastic message delivery don't over judge yourself this allows the audience to connect emotionally, because they now can see you the person. The message if good will do the rest we already know you must prepare practice and everything else . But over judging yourself is harmful to your confidence, which is needed to produce a worthwhile connection .

This is one of the best practices so far. This is tried and tested not once but literally 100s of times. I did it, I suggest this to all my students, clients and parents during parenting coaching, and the results are amazing. Record yourself, do mirroring technique, record your voice. You get to know your mistakes first further improvement. This helps in confidence building, because it mimics as if you’re speaking in front of an audience. Trick your brain into this, and believe me, it will be like - fake it till you make it. Your brain will think you’ve done public speaking many times and when you will stand on stage it will not be the first time for your brain because for brain the similar activity is performed in the past.

Recording yourself is the best way to analyse your public speaking skills. I did that myself when I used to deliver speeches in Toastmasters meetings. It helped a lot as you can see yourself from an audience’s perspective and work on your weak areas without getting other people involved in the process. While you record yourself, watch the recording in two ways: 1. Put your screen down and volume up. Just listen to your voice - how you sound. Keep a check on pronunciations, articulation,etc. 2. Put your volume down and just look at your video. How you look, your expressions, etc. This way you’ll be able to analyse your speaking skills in depth and doing this continuously will help you hone these skills faster

Monitoring engagement is a vital tool in public speaking. Your audience act as mirrors, they reflect the message you are putting across. You could utilise their reactions throughout your delivery to evaluate your performance in the long run. After your speech, go back to the drawing board, reflect and make your next speech a better one.

The number 1 way you can evaluate your public speaking performance without making common mistakes is to record yourself when speaking, that is when practicing your speech before the D-day and vet your performance or ask a friend, coach or mentor to vet you. Afterwards take corrections, make necessary adjustments and continue to practice until you can speak impeccably without making the common mistakes. If you are already on stage, use the pause & breathe technique to ensure you maintain your calm so you can avoid common mistakes like speaking too fast, stammering, pronouncing wrongly etc. and as you observe the faces in the audience, you can evaluate your public speaking performance.
