Defining goals is highly crucial in consulting projects as it is for all other types of projects. Any initiative need goal definition which includes clarity about what is the target state we need to achieve, timeline, benefits, stakeholders involved, impact etc. both in qualitative and quantitative manner.

Before you start your journey on innovation - research and discuss with others eg your manager or mentor. Perhaps your innovative idea was already done and implemented and there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Seek early feedback before building a whole framework and spending too much time. If it’s new indeed / make sure to document it and your progress and outcomes. That way others can learn from you.
