As someone who has contracted system architects temporarily and done some work as well, one key skill I observe when rehiring someone for another project is being trustworthy, having integrity and being true to their word and what they have done. I have worked with a senior architect who wouldn't inflate his delivery time, make the deliverable look bigger to charge higher than he would for something small etc. At first, we couldn't believe it so we validated all output and time scopes for 2 projects and they were always on point. He did the work within the time he mentioned. He would also not bill us if the work was significantly small. It's hard now to convince anyone to bring onboard another system architect consultant other than him.
