I've always felt that critical thinking get stronger with repetition and practice. Sure, it's great to come up with a wild idea you think might boost sales or save expense but unless you go out and personally try it, you won't know how good ( or bad) it is. And as you develop new thoughts, you can harken back to your memory bank on what worked or didn't work the last time. The important part is you keep asking how can we get better ( and maybe fail) vs settling for where you are as the best it can ever be.

Fully supportive of this one. Not only it helps to reflect logically but it also helps to think as a team of individuals who don’t necessarily think at the same pace, ie it helps with buy in and social cohesion.

In the GenAI enabled cognitive skills future, the ability to ask questions that are well thought, linked to critical aspects of the decision and most importantly revealing facets of the decision outcomes will be the key differentiator between the teams. Easier said than done as we have typically been trained to digest answers rather than ask question. As a team lead, you need to adopt the approach of flip thinking and dig deeper with your teams when faced with situations that need well reasoned decisions. To be able to do this, some of the well accepted basis are - being open ended, recognize and challenge assumptions, be sharp to pick the key element and consider a solution as one of the possibilities.

Should there be only a few ideas or explanations on the table in such a meeting, adopt 'Negative Brainstorming' approach. Basically, define the problem, reverse the problem, generate, list, and analyze negative ideas, followed by identifying solutions and prioritize them to build an action plan.
