Understating the scope and requirements is the first step for Cybersecurity projects like any other projects. Once we understand, conducting discovery and analysis, baking security by design, privacy by design principles, threat modeling, using the secure development lifecycle, vulnerabilities management, BCP etc. factoring while creating the detailed plan ( as details as possible) is crucial. Once we have detailed plan, make sure to monitor whether planned dates/milestones are being met or not during the execution. If not, plan for course correction, address any issues and risks identified in a timely to ensure timely delivery.

I come from the M&A environment where there is exists a critical point in the integration where an incoming entity may present a "grey zone" where there exist risks characterized by legacy IT systems and processes and - oftentimes - loose IT cybersecurity governance. From my experiences, I have learned the following: 1) Integrate cybersec teams early and throughout the M&A process; 2) Identify and assess security risks associated with the merger, including data security, system vulnerabilities, and access controls; 3) Create a detailed plan outlining the steps to integrate the security systems of both organizations; 4) Ensure alignment to standard cyber security policies and procedures; 5) Test and validate the security controls in place

The first and most important aspect of any project delivery is tied to solid planning. The planning phase should clearly define the scope of the project, clearly calling out potential blockers, setting out clear expectations with the stakeholders involved, defining feasible delivery timelines. A lot of time projects slips deadline due to poor planning and many times what is your priority is not the priority of stakeholders involved, so planning these things early lead to timely delivery of Cybersecurity projects as their delivery is very time sensitive and dealy can put organisations to risk.

"No News" is Good News (Sometimes): If everything's going smoothly, a quick "all green" update can still be valuable. It reassures stakeholders and builds trust.

It is always important to categorise the tasks in different buckets: P0 : Critical, delay here can cause significant risk. P1: High, these are not strict on timelines but delay here can cause impact at later point of time. P2: Medium, these are good to have and can wait for sometime. P3: Low, these are like enhancements and there is no impact even if not achieved. Another important tasks is putting tasks in different buckets, for this team need to map the tasks based on business urgency, potentials risk factors, specific requirements from leadership etc.

Focus on the most critical tasks that have the highest impact on project success. Use prioritization techniques such as the MoSCoW method (Must have, Should have, Could have, and Won't have) to allocate resources efficiently. Ensure that high-priority tasks are completed before moving on to less critical ones.
