I used to attend workshops and work with leaders to learn about the field in a deeper level.

As an HR intern, networking and building relationships will provide you with insightful knowledge, mentorship, and?for the future. I advise you to accomplish the following TWO tasks at this time: 1- Work with Cross-Functional Teams: Take part in initiatives with coworkers from different departments. This gives you access to a wider network outside of HR and offers insightful information about other departments inside the company. 2- Participate in Departmental Meetings and activities: Take an active part in training sessions, department meetings, and social activities. These offer beneficial chances to network with coworkers, discover their responsibilities, and?build a more casual rapport.

Feedback is your best friend!! Actively seek out constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors, and view it as an opportunity to improve and refine your skills as an intern.

In my experience reflection plays a big role when it comes to growing your skills in the world of HR. It's easy to get lost in day to day activities and trying to focus solely on learning but taking time to reflect can help you track your progress. Reflecting regularly can also help you asses and think of more creative ways you could have handled a situation or issue, solidifying your understanding and a growth mindset.

Proactive Initiative: Don't wait to be assigned tasks. Take initiative and ask your supervisor for projects that align with your interests and can help you develop new skills. Seek Out Learning Opportunities: Look for opportunities to learn beyond your day-to-day tasks. Attend industry webinars, conferences, or workshops. Ask to shadow HR professionals in different specializations. Feedback and Self-Assessment: Regularly seek feedback from your supervisor on your performance. Conduct self-assessments to identify areas for improvement.

Attention to detail. Tech skills- anything data related such as building dashboards or advanced excel skills are a huge help to any HR team! Prompt communication- keep yourself accountable to replying to requests and emails - don’t make others follow up with you. If you have extra time ask your manager if there’s anything you can help with, if they don’t have anything, ask if you can offer your help to other team members. Attend all company functions / events. Network with interns across the department - they are your internal clients and valuable relationships! Ask if you can attend meetings as a learning opportunity and offer to take notes as a value add. Finally always be early !
