Though commonly understood as "the ability to understand ones feelings", I feel it is much more than that. An emotionally intelligent individual will go deeper in an effort to understand their emotions more. For example: 1. WHAT AM I FEELING RIGHT NOW? 2. WHY AM I FEELING THIS? WHAT TRIGGERED THE FEELING? 3. HOW SHOULD I RESPOND TO THE FEELING? 4. WHICH PARTIES LED TO THIS STATE? In understanding the above questions, it will be quite easier to engage all parties involved in an effort to foster teamwork and productivity in the work place.

Emotional intelligence activation process for a data scientist starts with listing. Before staring the implementation process he should listen well to the stack holders and users to understand the factors which are directly impacting the business but have not been saved in dataset.

This is very important in my everyday work life, especially working with data. You have to understand the balance between your emotions and stress towards the data that you are being provided from the client and the factual data that is accurately correct or incorrect. You have to be able to listen to certain details that will help you decipher what kind of path to take to solve the problem, otherwise you will be left very overwhelmed. The important part is being able to collaborate and interact on the daily basis, but many forget how equally if not more important is active listening and paying attention to details. There will always be issues and problems that arise everyday, more than you will expect. But if you listen better, it’s great.

In our field, we frequently interact with business stakeholders handle sensitive information, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, the ability to truly listen and understand is invaluable. Definitely you have to approach it with an open & growth mindset. In fact, the people with whom you don't get along so well also can provide invaluable feedback as they are the ones who can actually see your blind spots really well. The two-way feedback exchange is mandatory for a successful completion of a project or a task. In this journey, there is continuous improvement & learning. Meager learning happens when you don't know what is going well & what is not. In essence, if you stop learning you stop growing!

An experienced data scientist should be always ready to hear disagreements. He should accept that some details are usually hidden in background of conflicts thus he must understand and use them.

EI is very important, specially when you work in a branch where Most Part of people Are Not so Engaged with IT, for example, Healthy insurance branch where Team is 80% of nurses and Care givers. If Something on the Environment changes, or some Information is Not already available, the First reaction is to Complain with the Data Scientists. And keep calm, try to Unterstand what is going on is very important to try to find and solve the issues.

It is always important to allow for different perspectives and to try to stay as professional as possible without making it personal. Just like machine learning models, we are all biased and it is important to be aware of your own flaws and biases to engage well with others. When having a conflict with someone, try to empathize, observe instead of judge and if possible, thank people for their criticism. Conflicts can be a unique opportunity to grow.
