First, make sure your data is accurate and not subject to error. You then need to define clearly the quantity you wish to measure and try alternative metrics. Typically, there is no globally optimal metric, hence you need to work on this, e.g. analysts tend to adopt standard deviation to measure asset return risk, but this is not always an optimal metric. Third, if you need forward looking metrics, you need to specify a “model” that projects your expectations. No matter whether this is quantitative or qualitative, this has to be well-defined and subject to validation. Finally ,a hint: the use of “predictive” factors to form expectations for your metric should consider effects coming not only from their means, but also from higher moments.

As an example, sales this year do relate to sales last year, but are also affected by external events such as Covid, to mention an extreme case. Hence, any modelling attempt should take both sources of evolution into account.

Según mi experiencia este proceso es muy importante para seguir creciendo, lo que no se mide no se puede mejorar. Te cuento como puedes implementarlo: 1- Revisión mensual, trimestral y anual de las inversiones. 2-Infórmate a nivel semanal sobre las tendencias macroeconómicas y datos relevantes de mercado. 3- Ten un benchmarck como objetivo y compara tu rendimiento con él. 4- Realiza rebalanceo de cartera para mantener los mismos pesos en cada activo. 5- Documenta cada movimiento que realices, te ayudara a optimizar la estrategia cuando revises.
