Why is your subject material important? What problem are you solving? Why should the audience care? Tell them what is important and then show them what is important. What are the drawbacks of this new aero tech or product? Expensive, complicated, potential to drift or false positives. Understand the material enough to know how the audience will question you or push back on your topic.

Know your audience. Always be certain to keep the level of technical detail appropriate for the audience. If it’s for sales and purchasing and support teams then maybe not too much tech. If it’s for other engineers and specialists be precise. If it’s for management stick to the impacts the topic creates like revenues, environmental or social even. Practice and practice again is key. Knowing the order of the information you’ll deliver as well as your know your a b c’s is the key to success when presenting. That will give the ability to go back and forth between different points in the presentation and will really highlight how well prepared you are.

The idea of practice is very good as it supports you to avoid forgetting what you want to convey. But as much as practice helps, you need to work on the emotions and do not let the hunger for perfection killing your passion for presenting.

I got a training about presenting with confidence. You should imagine yourself giving a dam good talk and the audience receiving the information with passion and interest. That kills your anxiety and makes things flow easier. I do not mean you have to act as an arrogant person, it is a visualization for your success not for your ego appraisal. Just tell yourself silently "I can nail it!" and take a deep breath afterwards.

OK. From my time as an academic researcher I met one guy who was a real entertainer. From Trinity College, he has an impeccable scientific reputation. An excellent story teller. Telling a joke or explaining complex topic with funny analogies and asking questions in a funny way may boost the interest and make a complex topic look less challenging. Of course, this strategy works for a public presentation, for a report. For an escalation meeting with a client, empathy shall replace the humor. But you still have to be an story teller.

Know your audience. Is it executives or leadership you need to sign off on a project? Is it a technology you need engineers to understand so that they will utilize? Are you presenting to pilots or non-Aero experts? Once you know the audience, tailor the DETAILS to the audience. The main presentation should not change but the talking points are important for what you emphasize. Tell a story and simplify the presentation. When attendees are asked "What was that presentation about?" They will need to summarize the presentation. Give them the summary at the beginning "here is what i will show you" and at the end "... to reiteriate, this new product solves problem X."

This posture not only conveys confidence to your audience but also signals to your own brain that you're in command. Make eye contact to create a connection, but don't lock onto one person. Avoid crossing your arms or fidgeting, which can undermine your message. Remember, your body is speaking even when you're not. Make sure it's saying, "I've got this."

When fielding questions, embrace the challenge with poise. Take a beat to collect your thoughts, and if stumped, own it with grace. "Great question! Let me dig into that and circle back." Authenticity and a genuine desire to help go a long way. Prep for likely questions, but stay nimble. The real magic? Connecting with your audience through empathy and wit. Make 'em laugh, make 'em think, make 'em glad they asked. Questions aren't a pop quiz - they're a chance to shine.

Repeat the question to make sure you understand it from the person asking and others can hear as well. This also gives your brain more time to come up with an answer. If a difficult question comes up, agree with the person and say if you have looked into it or perhaps thats on your roadmap. "Don't genAI tools hallucinate incorrect instructions." "Your right, and thats why we have been cautious about deploying it before we have fully validated the custom LLM solution." or if you havent thought about it, praise the questioner, "Oh that is an interesting aspect, we have not looked into but that is on our roadmap of problems"

If you feel like you're winging it, try to remember that everyone else feels like that too. I used to think the aerospace engineering field different, but it isn't.

One of the more important things to boost your confidence. You've probably worked on it more than anyone in the audience, and have become the subject matter expert (in a narrow sense, at least). Also, consider that any outcome and feedback after the presentation is to help you improve.

If one could match any project outcomes with primary goals, the confidence could be assured. Since any deviation from the defied mission could result in losing time and credence of project.
