Empowering your team will allow them to build out aspects of their program in their own image, while remaining aligned with program goals. Giving team members the space and resources to evolve will enable the program manager to focus more on vision and direction.

I would argue this is the most important aspect of delegation. Often you delegate to someone who has less experience than you. It is key to remember that delegation should be a positive thing for everyone involved. It frees you up to do other aspects of your job and gives a direct report the chance to show what they are worth to the company. Too many managers delegate and forget about it or delegate and yell or micromanage. I always say that if I have to micromanage my team, I failed them as a leader or I chose the wrong people for my team. Delegation should be a learning opportunity
