Here's how you can enhance video quality through collaboration with videographers and sound engineers.

Let's not forget the invaluable role of the artist in this process. A videographer brings a unique artistic touch that can transform a mundane video into a visual masterpiece. We always push for the highest quality audio possible in our projects. Sound is so important that you can have a subpar picture and still keep an audience entertained and engaged if your sound is superior. I’m a huge proponent of going beyond the call of duty to capture natural moments in the field. Have fun with it, get those microphones in there and capture incredible sound. We’ve gotten lazy as an industry in always relying on sound design. Another thing to remember is to use nat sound in projects under music. I’m not a fan of this trend of slowed down silent video with music. Use mics, capture amazing sound in the field. Your audience reaction will be stronger.

It depends on the venue , and the job that videographer is doing. For example a venue with live music event, and it is a rock band. It’s almost impossible to get the good mix out from sound engineering, due to some equipment like drums is hard to get sound of. In this case it’s important during the rehearsal to find a sweet spot inside the venue and place separate audio recording equipment to get the sound, and even then the quality will not be the same as inside the venue.

Sound engineers and videographers should view themselves as teammates rather than competitors. At live events, sound engineers often consider their work the top priority, while videographers feel similarly about theirs. Effective communication and collaboration are key to building a cohesive team, ensuring a successful outcome for everyone involved.

Excellent communication can lead to excellent results. If you have hired a team (DP & audio engineer) to capture something for you, the more you can bring them up to speed as to what you want/need, the more likely you are to have the best footage. Details, details, details. One of my favorite producers in the world use to provide me with a call sheet with address to be at, map link, the call time. A photo of the interviewee, or location, for a reference for lighting. The tech specs Resolution, frame rate, Codec, style etc. Numbers to call if there were issues, and the address and FedEx number to ship the footage when done! His late input, declaring "this location can't work for sound recording," caused significant disruptions to the shoot. To avoid such issues and ensure a smooth production process, early collaboration with the sound team is essential.
