Here's how you can enhance film production quality and visual effects using new technology.

The starting point for a quality film production. The choice of camera must make sense for your production; you don't necessarily need the best camera on the market. Given the needs of your film, you can choose a less expensive camera and spend your budget on other aspects that will help in the narrative construction of your film. Given today's standards, the ideal camera is one that can shoot in at least 4K resolution and record without heavy compression. Try to avoid recording in H264, XAVC, and other similar formats, as compression issues may arise during post-production. As a recommendation, I suggest Blackmagic cameras, which offer excellent value for money, as well as Canon cameras (those capable of recording in RAW).

Adopting high-resolution cameras like 4K or 8K for detailed footage, and investing in advanced software such as Adobe After Effects and Blender for powerful compositing and 3D modeling. Utilize virtual production techniques with LED screens and real-time rendering engines like Unreal Engine to create immersive environments, and employ motion capture for realistic CGI character movements. Implement AI-driven tools for automated tasks such as rotoscoping and color correction, and explore drone filming for dynamic aerial shots. Optimize your workflow with cloud-based collaboration platforms and stay updated with the latest technological advancements to continually improve production quality and visual effects.

Software is always a very personal choice, for any purpose. I personally love Fusion, by Blackmagic. What you need here is to find what suits you best and which software you can adapt to more easily. It will not be the defining factor in the quality of your VFX. I have seen horrible work done in Nuke (one of the market leaders) and wonderful work done in After Effects. Again, software is a tool! Find the one you can use best.

In today's world, where remote work is a reality, you need a tool to share your work. Initially, you can look for "classic" cloud services like Google Drive or Dropbox. However, with larger and heavier workloads, it's better to invest in a centralized solution that can provide better speeds, such as Aspera or Media Shuttle. In addition to the materials themselves, choose a tool to manage everything (VFX versions, color options, cuts, artwork). It can be something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet or complete solutions like FTrack.

A crucial aspect to consider in any production is the archiving of your project. After everything has been delivered, you need to back up and archive your project. It's important that this backup is done with checksum verification to ensure that everything has been backed up successfully. Additionally, it's necessary to have options of the film archived in color spaces that allow for future remastering (for a new format, for example). Regarding where to archive, always remember the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies, on two different media, with 1 of these copies stored in a different location from the other two.
