My manager used to define roles at the beginning of a large enterprise deal. The team was divided into 3 parts - Sales, Presales, Implementation & Support 1. Sales - Mapping the stake holders like Influencers, decision makers, gate keepers etc. How to manage each personas - each person would have their own expectations and ego. Sales team was also expected to understand the commercial expectation and find a middle ground between customer and internal team 2. Presales - understand the requirements, educate the customer with industry insights and affirmation for your solution. This includes coordinating with product team 3. Implementation/Support - prior to closure, give confidence towards a seamless implementation and post go-live support

In my previous company, after defining the role of team/individual our manager also used to define quantifiable expectations with deadline. This way, we could monitor the progress of each task effectively. The expectations needs to be aligned to the end goal and must be re visited from time to time.

I will focus on the lead generation/prospecting stage. Not providing your BD and Sales team with prospecting tools will result in poor pipeline which marks the beginning of the downfall of any company. There are many tools like Lusha, SignalHire, Apollo.io and Mr. E by Easyleadz. I personally use Mr. E by Easyleadz for Indian market. I get 90% of the contact details of my prospects. I would suggest sales/BD team to try it once the next time you want to prospect.

There is a thin line between monitoring and micromanaging. Hence monitoring becomes a tricky job. Too less, might hamper the progress of task and too much might hamper the morale of a person. The right way is to clearly define the task and timeline. Have a regular catchup to monitor the progress, revisit the task if required and offer timely help to achieve the task. Generally I would suggest to have a team catchup to monitor the progress rather than 1-on-1.
