Here's how you can effectively market yourself as a freelance life coach.

"To be irreplaceable, one must always be different." - Coco Chanel As a life coach, finding your special area is like choosing your favorite game to play. Think about what you love doing and who you want to help. Maybe you’re great at helping people get organized or you love coaching kids. Knowing this helps you tell the world, “Here’s what I’m really good at!”

I call this: Your 'Uncopyable Niche' It's more important than ever before. You need to create your own category - a category of one, as Matt Gray says. There's something about you and your approach that is different from everyone else. That is exactly what the world (and your ideal clients) need! It takes a little bit of guts, and some experimentation, but do not settle for anything generic here!

Having a website is great, but I'm taking a contrarian approach here: building a standalone website is NOT the most important thing for you to do first, especially if you're a new coach. Yes, you do want to build one, and build your own newsletter mailing list, but far too often I've seen people waste hours and dollars on a website. If you must, get something simple up using Carrd or Squarespace or similar - keep it simple! Done is better than perfect. Your LinkedIn Bio is more important - invest time into making that perfect!

"In the digital age, your website is your digital handshake." - Unknown A website is like your online home. Make it a place where people can visit to learn all about you and what you do. Show them pictures, tell them stories about how you’ve helped others, and make sure they can find how to reach you. It’s like putting up a sign that says, “Welcome! Let me help you.”

I recommend: pick 1 or 2 platforms to start. Do NOT try to be omnipresent on all of them at once. You'll end up spreading yourself too thin. Pick the ONE or 2 that your ideal clients are on most often. Dominate them. When things are running smoothly, then you can branch out.

This is key! You must give away your best stuff for free. This is the way to make people want to hire you. Often times, you can give them the roadmap - and then they will still want your help implementing it. So, don't be afraid to make a killer valuable lead magnet or free offer. It will pay back with huge ROI.

"Value is what you give." - Warren Buffett Always think about how you can help others, even before they pay you. Maybe you can give a free talk, write helpful articles, or even do a mini-coaching session for free. When people see how much you can help them, they’ll want more!

"Your network is your net worth." - Porter Gale Networking is like making friends who can help you grow. Go to events, join groups, and talk to other coaches online. Share your stories and listen to theirs. You never know when someone you meet can introduce you to your next client!

"Quality is not an act, it is a habit." - Aristotle Always think about how you can get better at what you do. Maybe ask your clients what they like and what they don’t. Or try new ways of coaching that might work even better. It’s like practicing a sport – the more you practice, the better you get!

Be authentic, vulnerable, and valuable. The more you do those, the more clients you will attract. Also: remember that it is your responsibility to sell someone your services IF you can help them (honestly) and IF they need help. So, don't be afraid to ask for someone's business, even though sales are 'scary' for some.

Continuously advance through self development so you can improve your client offering. Send surveys to prospects to fully understand their coaching need so you can offer tailor made solutions
